Baseball splits first two games of Liberty League Crossover Series at Union; wins 8-6, loses 12-2

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The RIT baseball team split the first two games of the Liberty League Crossover Series against Union, Saturday; winning 8-6, losing 12-2.

GAME ONE – RIT 8, Union 6

  • Sophomore Trent Rapp gave RIT an early 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single to center
  • Union tied the game 1-1 in the second on an RBI single
  • In the third, sophomore Jarin Moses hit a 2-run homer, giving the Tigers a 3-1 advantage
  • Sophomore Charlie Slaymaker hit a 2-run homer and senior John Bagley hit a solo home run in the fourth, increasing RIT's lead to five runs
  • In the fifth, Union scored five runs cutting the Tigers' lead to one
  • Junior Adam Marsh hit an RBI double down the left field line in the sixth, making it 8-6 in favor of the Tigers

GAME TWO – Union 12, RIT 2

  • RIT took an early 2-0 lead in the first on two RBI singles from sophomore Trent Rapp and senior Kyle Poorman
  • Union scored five runs in the first and took a 5-2 lead
  • The Garnet Chargers scored their sixth run in the third on a throwing error by the Tigers defense
  • Union took a 7-2 lead in the fourth on a throwing error
  • The Garnet Chargers scored four runs in the fifth on a 2 RBI single and a 2 RBI triple
  • Union scored their 12th run in the sixth on an RBI single
