Men’s Soccer comes up short at Vassar, 3-2

POUGHEEPSIE, N.Y.  – The RIT men's soccer team fell short in a 3-2 loss at Vassar in Liberty League action Saturday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Vassar struck first in the 21st minute when Jared Fiske finished a cross from Gavin Johnson and Zapp Hotz at the back post.
  • Arden Tobolski doubled the lead in the 26th minute, scoring from the top of the box off a pass from Fiske.
  • Alejandro Martinez made it 3-0 for the Brewers in the 43rd minute, forcing a turnover and scoring inside the left post.
  • RIT responded in the 54th minute when sophomore forward Idriss Diallo curled a shot from the top right of the box into the top left corner, assisted by senior midfielder Gabriel Zaninetti.
  • Graduate student midfielder Chris Lee added a second for RIT in the 60th minute, tucking a loose ball inside the left corner.

 
GAME NOTES

  • RIT was outshot 13-6 in the game, but held a 5-3 edge in second-half shots.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Kristian Dobbek made five saves in goal for RIT, including four in the first half.
  • Diallo's goal is his fourth of the season and leads the Tigers with 11 points (4 goals, 3 assists) through 10 games.
  • The Tigers dropped to 4-4-2 overall and 0-2-2 in Liberty League play.

RIT stays on the road this week when they visit Rochester in a non-conference game on Wednesday (Oct. 8) at 7 p.m.
