RIT Athletics Preview: Feb. 12-18

MEN'S TENNIS
The Tigers began their spring season 1-1, defeating Oneonta 8-1 on Saturday, before falling to Rochester 8-1 on Sunday.

Junior Grahith Movva clinched the deciding point to lead RIT to victory on Saturday. On Sunday, first-year Alec Turcotte won the Tigers lone point at second singles when his opponent had to withdraw because of an injury before the start of the second set. Turcotte won the first 7-6 (7-4).

The Tigers travel to Nazareth on Wednesday.

Wednesday, Feb. 14

WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD
The Tigers split up this past weekend, with some athletes partaking in the RIT Friday Meet, while others were at the Boston University Valentine Invitational.

At RIT's Friday Meet, senior Katie Cobos placed second in the 3,000 (10:43.87), graduate student Sydney Burgard finished fourth in the 5,000 (19:31.76) and first-year Amelia Geck placed fifth in the shot put (11.32m). First-year Amelia Burger finished seventh in the 60 hurdles (10.98) and first-year Mia Gerber placed seventh in the high jump (1.42m).

At the Boston University Valentine Invitational, graduate student Catherine Fox placed fifth in the pole vault, breaking her own program-record height with a 3.62m effort. Junior Allison Regnante finished eighth in the 60 hurdles (9.55), sophomore Sadie Rose placed 12th in the 200 lowering her own program record time with a 24.62 clocking. Rose also finished 32nd in the 400 with a program-record 56.35 effort, junior Emily DiMarco placed 13th in both the shot (11.15m) and the weight throw (13.49m). Regnante finished 16th in the long jump (4.92m), sophomore Rania Sabri placed 17th in the triple jump (10.54m), followed by senior Violet Ameele in 19th (9.94m).

The Tigers compete in the Nazareth Conference Tune-Up on Friday.

Friday, Feb. 16

MEN'S TRACK & FIELD
The Tigers split up this past weekend, with some athletes competing at the RIT Friday Meet, while others were at the Boston University Valentine Invitational.

At the RIT Friday Meet, sophomore Dean Bartels won the shot put (13.94m), first-year Tucker Haluszczak finished second in the 200 (23.29) and first-year Ryan Swenson was second in the pole vault (4.30m). Junior Bradley Baybutt finished second in the high jump (1.77m), senior Zachary Eckhardt earned third place in the 5,000 (16:08.35) and sophomore Eric Antonecchia finished third in the 60 hurdles (9.03). First-year Samuel Adamson placed third in the 800 (2:03.39) and sophomore Elliott Walter finished third in the shot put (13.41m).

At the Boston University Valentine Invitational,  first-year Erich Brown finished third in the high jump (1.91m), junior Noah Koeng placed fifth in the pole vault (4.33m) and senior Aidan Sheahan finished eighth in the pole vault (4.18m). Graduate student Aidan Hughes placed 10th in the weight throw (16.23m) and sophomore Erik Stephany finished 20th in the weight throw (14.75m).

The Tigers compete in the Nazareth Conference Tune-Up on Friday.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The Tigers went 0-2 this past weekend, falling to Vassar, 76-51 on Friday, before losing to Skidmore 58-43 on Saturday.

First-year forward Faye Kaplinski and sophomore guard Ansley Orrell led the Tigers with 10 points each in Friday's loss, while senior guard Emma Waite had a team-high 18 points on Saturday. On Saturday, sophomore guard Erin DiPaola logged a career-high 38 minutes of playing time and junior guard Kaitlyn Bockelman grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds.

The Tigers close out the regular season hosting Union and Bard this weekend.

WOMEN'S HOCKEY
The Tigers split a two-game series with Syracuse this past weekend, winning 1-0 on Friday and losing 3-0 on Saturday.

Junior forward Jordyn Bear scored the game-winning goal on Friday and sophomore goalie Sophia Bellina picked up her first career shut out. Bellina had 20 saves in Saturday's loss.

RIT travels to Penn State for a two-game series this weekend.

WRESTLING
The Tigers defeated Oneonta, 33-13 on Saturday.

Junior Lee Rubin began the match with a pin of Billy Colloca at 2:01 at 125 lb. Sophomore Isaiah Shafer picked up a 19-4 technical fall victory over Santos Ocasio at 141 lb. Junior Mike Glynn III, ranked No. 20 in Division III at 149 lb., pinned Oneonta's Anderson Klosner at 2:26, and first year Marek Bush picked up a 13-1 major decision win over Max Yahre at 157 lb. Junior Liam Strouse pinned Matthew Coffey two minutes into his match at 165 lb., while first year Ryan Fischer was a 5-3 winner over Jhordyn Innocent at 285 lb.

RIT hosts Brockport on Friday.

Friday, Feb. 16
vs. Brockport - 7:00 p.m. 

MEN'S HOCKEY
The Tigers split a two-game series with Mercyhurst this past weekend, winning 7-6 in overtime on Friday and losing 3-2 on Saturday.

On Friday, sophomore forward Simon Isabelle scored the game-winning goal with 12.7 seconds left in overtime. Trailing 5-3,  with under five minutes left in the second period and later, 6-4, with 12:25 left in the third, RIT finished the game with three unanswered goals, including the game-tying goal by senior defenseman Aiden Hansen-Bukata with 36.2 seconds left in regulation. 

First-year Matthew Wilde and graduate student forward Elijah Gonsalves were the Tigers' goal scorers on Saturday. Junior forward Carter Wilkie was credited with a secondary assist on Wilde's goal for his 100th career point, becoming the 14th D1-era Tiger to total triple-digit points. He also notched his 30th point of the season, becoming only the fifth D1-era player with three seasons of at least 30 points and first since Cameron Burt '12.

The Tigers host Air Force Friday and Saturday.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
The Tigers went 1-1 this past weekend, losing to Vassar 63-61 on Friday before defeating Skidmore 71-66 on Saturday.

Junior guard Brock Bowen led the Tigers with 14 points in Friday's loss, while junior forward Josiah Turner had a team-high 12 points and 11 rebounds on Saturday.

The Tigers close out the regular season hosting Union and Bard this weekend.
