Women's Volleyball defeats Oneonta, falls to Rochester
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The RIT women's volleyball team split a pair of home matches on Friday, earning a 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-19) victory over Oneonta after falling, 3-0 (25-20, 25-11, 25-19) to Rochester.
RIT 3, ONEONTA 0 (25-22, 25.22, 25-19)
- RIT opened a 10-9 first-set lead, but Oneonta moved ahead for a 15-12 edge. The Tigers' reclaimed a 16-15 lead with a 4-0 run before the Red Dragons responded with a 6-1 surge for a 21-17 lead. RIT scored three-consecutive points on the serve of senior setter Sydney Neff, to pull back within one before Oneonta notched a points for a 22-20 lead. However, the Tigers scored five unanswered points, including a pair of kills by fifth-year Emelia Mislan, to earn the opening victory.
- RIT broke a 10-10 tie in the second with four-straight points, before Oneonta responded with five for a 15-14 lead. The Tigers rode a 5-0 run to a 19-15 lead, but the Red Dragons later put together a 4-0 run to take a 22-21 lead. RIT scored four unanswered points, including a kill and the deciding service ace by first-year outside hitter Macie Jolliffe, to build a 2-0 lead.
- Trailing, 8-5 in the third, RIT put together a 10-1 run for a 15-9 lead. The Tigers extended their lead, 21-12, but Oneonta scored five-straight to get within four. Teams traded points until RIT scored back-to-back points on a kill and a service ace by senior middle Grace Phelan to clinch the win.
- Jolliffe led the way with 13 kills while also tying senior libero Hailey Blixt with eight digs.
- Junior middle Cat Vento added eight kills on .571 attacking along with three blocks (one solo).
- Neff finished with 31 assists and four service aces as the Tigers finished the game with 16 service aces.
ROCHESTER 3, RIT 0 (25-20, 25-11, 25-19)
- Tied, 8-8 in the first set, Rochester used a 9-2 run to build a 17-10 lead it would not relinquish.
- The Yellow Jackets used a 7-1 run in the second to open an 11-3 lead and later scored eight of the final 10 points en route to the 14-point win.
- RIT scored five-straight points to open a 14-11 lead in the third, but Rochester responded with an 11-3 run to forge a 22-17 lead. The Tigers notched back-to-back points, but Rochester closed the match with three unanswered.
- Jolliffe led RIT with five kills and 10 digs.
- Neff added 20 assists and six digs.
