Women's Volleyball defeats Fredonia, 3-1, on Senior Night

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT women's volleyball team took down visiting Fredonia, 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-14, 25-10), Friday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Tied, 13-13, in the first set, RIT used a 7-2 surge to take a 20-15 lead. RIT later led, 23-18, and survived a 4-0 Fredonia run to score the final two points and take the opening set.
  • RIT opened a 5-3 second-set lead, but the Blue Devils rode a 10-2 run to a 13-7 lead. Fredonia later scored six-straight points to build a 20-10 lead and then had set point, 24-14, before taking the set despite six-straight points by the Tigers.
  • RIT started the third on a 7-2 run and later rode a 6-1 surge to a 15-8 lead. Leading, 19-12, the Tigers won six of the final eight points to earn a 2-1 lead.  
  • RIT jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the fourth and later scored a 7-2 run to a 17-6 lead. Leading, 18-8, the Tigers scored seven of the final nine points to put away the match. 

MATCH NOTES

  • Junior Samantha Cox totaled 13 kills on .480 hitting.
  • Senior Grace Phelan notched 11 kills on .471 attacking.
  • Senior Hailey Blixt led the way with 14 digs to go along with three service aces.
  • Senior Sydney Neff was credited with 37 assists and eight digs.
  • Phelan and fifth-year Emelia Mislan were honored prior to the match in a Senior Night ceremony. 

WHAT'S NEXT
RIT plays two matches on Saturday (Nov. 4), taking on host Geneseo at 3:00 p.m. after facing Carnegie Melon at 10:00 a.m.
