Softball falls twice at Alfred, 4-0, 7-6
ALFRED, N.Y. – The RIT softball team lost a pair of non-conference games at Alfred, Tuesday, falling 4-0 and 7-6.
GAME 1 – ALFRED 4, RIT 0
- The host Saxons put together a four-hit first inning en route to an early 2-0 lead before adding another run in the second for a three-run cushion.
- Alfred added an insurance run in the sixth while holding the Tigers hitless over the final four innings.
- Sophomore Jessica Majot took the complete game loss, yielding nine hits with no walks while striking out four.
GAME 2 – ALFRED 7, RIT 6
- Junior Erin Ozminkowski went 2-for-4 with two RBI and her first homerun of the season while first-year Maria Minemier finished 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI in game-two.
- RIT opened a 3-0 lead in the second, started by Ozminkowski's round-tripper over the centerfield fence with one out. Minemier followed with a single up the middle and advanced to second on a wild pitch before sophomore Bella Pioggia drew a walk. First-year Emma Merkley singled through the left side to load the bases before junior Lillian Rienstra knocked a two-run double to center.
- Alfred got an unearned run back in the bottom of the second before tying the game with two more unearned runs in the bottom of the third.
- The Tigers retook a 5-3 in the fifth after senior Elise Guth drew a one-out walk and advanced to second on a single by junior Bailey Kehl. Ozminkowksi and Minemier later knocked back-to-back two-out, RBI singles to bring home Guth and Kehl.
- The Saxons scored three times in the bottom of the fifth to reclaim a 6-5 lead, but RIT tied the game with two outs in the sixth after Rienstra was hit by a pitch and came home on a Guth double to left.
- Alfred brought home the deciding run after loading the bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh.
WHAT'S NEXT
RIT is scheduled to travel to Geneseo on Wednesday (Apr. 24) for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader postponed from last Wedenesday due to inclement weather.
