Softball swept, 4-2 and 8-0 (5 inn.), at RPI

RENSSELAER, N.Y. – The RIT Softball team fell twice at Liberty League rival RPI, 4-2 and 8-0 (5 inn.), Friday.
 
GAME 1 – RPI 4, RIT 2

  • Juniors Maddy Cook and Lillian Rienstra each finished 2-for-4 while first-year Maria Minemier went 1-for-2 with an RBI in the opener.
  • RIT opened the game with a run in the first inning. Rienstra reached on an infield single and advanced to second on a ground out by first-year Emma Merkley before coming home on a Cook single to right.
  • RPI tied the game with an unearned run in the third before bringing three more unearned runs across in the fifth to build a 4-1 lead.
  • Cook led off the sixth with a single down the right field line and eventually came home on an RBI groundout by Minemier.
  • Sophomore Jessica Majot took the complete game loss, allowing seven hits and zero walks along with no earned runs while striking out two. 

GAME 2 – RPI 8, RIT 0 (5 inn.)

  • RPI opened the scoring with three runs on three hits in the second inning and added three more runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth for a 6-0 lead. The Engineers brought two more across in the bottom of the fifth for the eight-run winning margin.

RIT continues Liberty League play on Saturday with a doubleheader at Skidmore slated for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch.
