Men’s Cross Country finishes fifth at NCAA DIII Niagara Championships

FREDONIA, N.Y. – RIT junior Derick Koen finished 14th out of 170 runners, helping the Tigers place fifth overall at the NCAA Division III Niagara Regional Championship, Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Koen ran the course with a time of 25:33.6, seven seconds faster than the junior's 25:40.6 time at the Kara Hall Memorial Invitational on Oct. 5. Both races were run on the same course in Lake Erie State Park.
  • Junior Evan Owens was 26th with a time of 26:10.9, beating out teammate Jeffrey Gibbs. The senior finished 28th for RIT, crossing the finish line with a 26:15.6 clocking.
  • First years Brandon Blandino took 38th (26:41.9) as Nate Flaherty placed 78th (27:36.0).
  • RIT had 179 points as NYU took first place with 29 points, beating out Geneseo by one point. Brockport placed third (86) as Hamilton was fourth (159).

Any potential individual at-large bids for the NCAA Division III National Championships will be announced Sunday, Nov. 17.at 3 p.m. on NCAA.com.
