Six Things You Need to Know about the 2024-25 Wrestling Team
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT wrestling team begins the 2024-25 season at the Ned McGinley Invitational on Saturday (Nov. 2). Here are six things you need to know about the Tigers.
A Look Back at 2023-24
RIT was 6-1 in dual meets. In their first year as a member the Tigers placed third at the SUNYAC Championships and second at the RIT Invitational and Ohio Intercollegiate Open. RIT finished in a tie for fifth at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championship and 40th at the NCAA Championships. Michael Glynn III finished eighth at 149 lbs. to earn All-American honors at the NCAA Championships.
Return of the All-Americans
Glynn and junior Josh Harkless return for the 2024-25 season. Glynn recorded a 29-5 record last season, finishing eighth at the 2024 NCAA Championships to earn All-American honors. Harkless was 29-8 in 2022-23 and finished eighth at the 2023 NCAA Championships, earning All-American honors.
More Top Returners
Senior Lee Rubin returns after posting a 29-7 record last season and led the team with 13 wins via pinfall. Sophomore Jared Lee was 22-6 his first year and placed third at the Mideast Futures. Junior Tyler Balent was 13-8 and sophomore Marek Bush was 16-3 and finished second at the SUNYAC Championships.
Preseason Rankings
Four Tigers are ranked in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III Region 2 Preseason rankings. Glynn and Harkless are ranked No. 1 at 149 and 285 lb., respectively. Rubin is ranked second at 125 lb and Bush is third at 157 lb. Harkless is No. 5 nationally while Glynn is ranked eighth in the nation.
The Newcomers
RIT welcomes 12 newcomers to the 2024-25 roster. Borese Antropov, Jude Bellantoni, Quincy Bonville, Ronald Dietz, Peter Graham, Kyle Jacobs, Jack Lamson, Lawrence Liss, Antoine Phillips, Luke Pires, Kenji Walters and Max Watson add depth to the roster and will compete for time this season.
2024-25 Schedule
RIT begins the season with the traditional Black and Orange Duals on October 19 as part of Brick City Homecoming and Family Weekend. The Tigers begin the regular season on November 2 at the Ned McGinley Invitational hosted by King's College.
RIT competes at the Ohio Intercollegiate Open on Sunday (Nov. 10) and at Johnson and Wales November 16. The Tigers compete at the New York State Intercollegiate Open on November 23 and finish the first semester by hosting the 58th RIT Invitational December 7.
The Tigers ring in 2025 at the Ithaca Duals on January 5, followed by the NWCA National Duals in Cedar Falls, Iowa January 10-11. RIT travels to Cortland for the SUNYAC Championships (Jan. 18), the Ken Ober Memorial Invitational at Elizabethtown (Jan. 25) and closes January at St. John Fisher (Jan. 31).
RIT wrestles at the Oneonta Duals (Feb. 15) and wraps up the regular season at the Mideast Futures (Feb. 23).
NCAA Mideast Regional Championships will take place Feb. 28-March 1 followed by the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships in Providence, Rhode Island beginning March 14.
