Men's Swimming & Diving wins third-straight Liberty League Championship
ITHACA, N.Y. – The RIT men's swimming & diving team wins third-straight Liberty League Swimming & Diving Championship.
RIT took the top spot with 1,530.5 points, followed host Ithaca (1,458.5) and RPI (1,273.5) in the top-three.
Junior Gellert Kish was named Diver of the Meet as he was a repeat champion from the 3-meter board with a score of 580.15 and earned second in the 1-meter diving event at 522.50 behind teammate Luke Albanese. Kish finished with a combined score of 1,102.65 to lead all divers.
Saturday Highlights:
- The relay team of senior Mike Atanasoff, junior Kai Louie, junior Jake Sapp, senior Drew Scheib placed first in the 400 freestyle relay with a program record time of 3:00.58
- Senior Mike Atanasoff placed second in the 100 freestyle (45.49)
- Senior Alex Pecze earned second and set a program record in the 200 backstroke (1:49.31), followed by graduate Aidan Daudier in third (1:51.71)
- Junior Ben Sippel finished second in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:03.71
Friday Highlights:
- Senior Drew Scheib won the 200 butterfly with a Liberty League record time of 1:47.82
- First-year Luke Albanese (528.55) took first place in the 1-meter dive, followed by junior Gellert Kish in second (522.50) and Neko Ferrara in fourth (496.10), all qualifying for the NCAA Diving Regional
- The 800 medley relay team of senior Alex Pecze, sophomore Eric Noga, sophomore Stephen Graver and graduate student Aidan Daudier placed second (6:51.82)
- Graduate student Westin Perry placed third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 50.11
- Junior Ben Sippel finished third and set a new program record time in the 100 breaststroke (55.33)
Thursday Highlights:
- Senior Drew Scheib won the 100 butterfly with a time of 48.36, followed by senior Mike Atanasoff in third (49.54) and junior Jake Sapp in fourth (49.82)
- The relay team of junior Jake Sapp, junior Ben Sippel, senior Mike Atanasoff and senior Drew Scheib placed second in the 400 medley relay
- Junior Kai Louie finished fifth in the 200 freestyle
Wednesday Highlights:
- Junior Gellert Kish (580.15), first-year Luke Albanese (546.55) and senior Neko Ferrara (529.00) finished 1-2-3 in the 3-meter dive. Kish's first place effort qualified him for a spot in the NCAA Regionals
- Senior Mike Atanasoff placed second in the 50 free with a time of 20.30
- Senior Drew Scheib finished second in 200 IM with a program record time of 1:50.09
- The 200 medley relay team of graduate student Westin Perry, junior Ben Sippel, senior Mike Atanasoff and senior Drew Scheib placed second with a program record time of 1:29.35
