RIT Athletics Preview: Oct. 16-21

WOMEN'S HOCKEY
The Tigers swept Union in a two-game series this past weekend, winning 4-1 on Friday and 2-1 on Saturday.

On Friday, first-year defender Emma Pickering, junior forwards Kylie Aquaro and Megan McCormick and first-year Addie Alvarez scored for the Tigers. Pickering's goal was the first of her collegiate career. Sophomore goalie Sophia Bellina made 21 saves to earn the win in net. Friday's win was the first for the Tigers against Union since the 2016-17 season.

On Saturday, senior forward Emma Roland scored the game-tying goal in the second period and then sophomore forward Jaidan Fahrny scored the game winning goal in the third period. Junior goalie Sarah Coe had 21 saves in net for the Tigers. 

The Tigers travel to No. 11 St. Lawrence on Thursday.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
The Tigers went 0-4 this past week, losing to Morrisville, 3-2 (25-23, 25-14, 16-25, 15-25, 16-14) on Tuesday, Ithaca, 3-0 (27-25, 25-8, 25-18) on Friday and Dension, 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-8) and Stevens, 3-0 (26-24, 25-13, 25-23) on Saturday.

RIT has a two-game road trip this weekend traveling to Vassar on Friday and Union on Saturday.

MEN'S HOCKEY
The Tigers defeated Guelph (Ont.), 6-4 in an exhibition on Monday and also defeated Notre Dame, 3-0 at Blue Cross Arena Saturday.

In Monday's exhibition, fifth-year defensemen Gianfranco Cassaro, junior forward Grady Hobbs, junior forward Carter Wilkie (twice), sophomore defenseman Xavier Lapointe and first-year Christian Catalano all scored for the Tigers.

On Saturday, Cassaro, Wilkie and junior forward Cody Laskosky scored for the Tigers. Junior goalkeeper Tommy Scarfone totaled 36 saves and earned his sixth career shutout. 

RIT hosts Sacred Heart Friday and Saturday.

MEN'S SOCCER

WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
The Tigers lost to RPI,148.5-151.5 on Saturday.

Junior swimmer Anna Peshenko won three events (100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke and 200 individual medley), first-year Madisen Pavoris won two events (100 backstroke and 200 backstroke), while first-year diver Maddi Williams also won two events (1-meter dive and 3-meter dive). 

RIT travels to Alfred University on Saturday.

MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
The Tigers defeated RPI, 199-95 on Saturday.

The Tigers finished first in all but four events. Junior diver Gellert Kish won two events (1-meter dive and 3-meter dive), senior swimmer Drew Scheib won two events (200 butterfly and 100 freestyle) and senior Mike Atanasoff won one event (500 freestyle). The 200 medley relay team that consisted of junior Jake Sapp, graduate student Mitch Gumbert, Atanasoff and Scheib earned first place as well as the 200 free relay team of Scheib, Sapp, Atanasoff and senior Max Bennett.

RIT travels to Alfred University on Saturday.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
The Tigers tied Skidmore, 1-1 on Friday and defeated RPI, 2-0 on Saturday.

On Friday, first-year Emma Pedro scored in the 87th minute off of an assist from sophomore defender Roberta Moger, providing RIT with the tie. Pedro's goal was her third of the season, tying her for third in scoring this season.

On Saturday, sophomore forward/midfielder Elena Onodera and senior forward Jessie Gomez scored for the Tigers. Onodera and junior midfielder Olivia Harris earned the assists for Gomez's goal, which puts her at a team-high five goals this season.

RIT travels to Union on Saturday.
