No. 2 Men's Lacrosse beats Geneseo, 16-8

ROCHESTER, NY – RIT graduate student Jake Erickson tallied a season-high seven assists to lead the No. 2 Tigers to a 16-8 win over Geneseo, Wednesday.
 
Graduate student attack Luke Pilcher tallied four goals, senior midfielder Kaden Brunson had two goals and two assists, while junior attack Clifford Gaston and graduate student midfielder John Mozrall each scored two goals.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Geneseo's William McCumoskey scored 32 seconds into the game to give the Knights the lead.
  • RIT ran off five straight goals, taking a 5-1 lead on sophomore face-off specialist Ethan Spillane's goal with 7:46 to play in the opening frame.
  • The Knights tallied two straight goals, cutting the RIT lead to 5-3 on Cole Bollin's goal with 1:56 to play.
  • Mozrall scored off an assist from Brunson early in the second quarter to extend RIT's lead to 6-3.
  • After a Geneseo man-up goal cut the RIT lead to 6-4, Gaston and Mozrall scored back-to-back goals, extending the RIT lead to 8-4 on Mozrall's goal with 9:51 remaining in the first half.
  • Pilcher tallied back-to-back goals, giving RIT a 10-5 lead on his goal with five minutes to play.
  • Senior midfielder Ian Dinga gave RIT an 11-6 lead on his goal with 2:08 to play and Brady Sullivan scored for Geneseo to cut RIT's lead to 11-7 at halftime.
  • Brunson, Erickson and Pilcher each scored in the third quarter for RIT. Pilcher extended the Tiger's lead to 14-8 on his goal with 2:35 to play in the third.
  • Pilcher and junior midfielder Sean Tierney each scored in the fourth quarter to make it a 16-8 final.

 
GAME NOTES:

  • RIT outshot Geneseo, 51-41.
  • Sophomore goalie Alex Zborowski made 14 saves in net to improve to 13-1.
  • RIT was 28-of-30 on clears and went 2-for-3 on man-up.
  • Spillane won 11-of-19 face offs and had five ground balls.
  • Senior defender Michael Grace had eight ground balls and caused four turnovers.
