No. 3 Men's Lacrosse beats Clarkson 21-9 on Senior Day
ROCHESTER, NY – RIT graduate student Jake Erickson tallied five assists and eight points to lead No. 3 RIT to a 21-9 win over Clarkson on Senior Day, Saturday.
Graduate student attack Luke Pilcher tallied four goals and five points, senior midfielder Seth Grottenthaler had two goals and an assist and junior attack Ethan Harkins finished with a goal and two assists. Senior midfielder Dylan Bruno and graduate student attack TJ Hendricks each scored two goals.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Clarkson's Tyler Hall scored 59 seconds into the game to give the Golden Knights an early lead.
- RIT ran off five straight goals, taking a 5-1 lead on Grottenthaler's second goal of the quarter.
- Erickson had a goal and an assist in the opening frame, while junior attack Clifford Gaston and junior midfielder Dominic Comella each scored a goal.
- The Tigers scored the first five goals of the second quarter, extending their lead to 10-1 on sophomore face-off specialist Ethan Spillane's goal with 8:55 to play in the half.
- Matt Reilly and Joe Kelly tallied back-to-back goals, cutting the RIT lead to 10-3 on Kelly's goal with 6:55 to play.
- Pilcher and graduate student midfielder John Mozrall each scored late in the quarter to give RIT a 12-3 halftime lead.
- Pilcher, Erickson, senior midfielder Kaden Brunson and first-year midfielder Kaden Dietrich each scored in a five-goal RIT run to begin the third quarter.
- Dietrich scored his first collegiate goal with 10:45 to play in the quarter, while Brunson's goal with 8:26 remaining increased the Tiger's lead to 16-3.
- Connor Matthews scored to cut the deficit to 16-4, but a goal from Hendricks and two from Bruno gave the Tigers a 19-4 lead.
- Kelly and Chris Albrecht tallied back-to-back goals, cutting the Tiger's lead to 19-6 on Albrecht's goal late in the quarter.
- Hendricks and senior attack Cameron Gebhardt each scored in the fourth quarter, while Reilly scored, and Matthews scored two to make it a 21-9 final.
GAME NOTES:
- RIT outshot Clarkson, 58-36.
- Sophomore goalie Alex Zborowski made six saves in net to improve to 12-1.
- Pilcher moved in second in program history with 180 career goals.
- Grottenthaler became the 63rd player in program history to reach the 100-point mark.
- RIT was 21-of-22 on clears and went 2-for-5 on man-up.
