Matt Thomas introductory press conference set for Thursday
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT will welcome new Men's Hockey Head Coach Matt Thomas to the community during an introductory press conference this Thursday (Apr. 17) at 11:00 a.m. in the Gene Polisseni Center Club Lounge.
Executive Director of Athletic Jacqueline Nicholson will introduce the eighth head coach in team history, who was hired after Wayne Wilson announced his retirement last week following a 26-year stint leading the program.
A 1998 RIT alumnus, Thomas jumped right into coaching after graduation and has over 26 years of experience at both the NCAA Division I and professional ranks, including the last four seasons as an assistant coach with the Providence Bruins – the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the NHL Boston Bruins.

Thomas brings extensive coaching experience back to Rochester. He has spent the last four seasons as an assistant coach with the Providence Bruins – the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the NHL Boston Bruins – and is also one of the winningest, most decorated coaches in East Coach Hockey League (ECHL) history. His first coaching position was as an assistant coach at his alma mater for the 1998-99 season.
