ROCHESTER, N.Y. - RIT fifth-year defenseman Gianfranco Cassaro was named the Atlantic Hockey Defensive Player of the Week, Monday, winning his third award of the season.
- Cassaro totaled three points on a goal and two assists in RIT's sweep of Canisius last weekend as the Tigers clinched their second consecutive Bob DeGregorio Trophy and the top seed for the Atlantic Hockey Tournament.
- Scoring his 14th goal of the season in Saturday's 3-2 road victory, Cassaro finished the regular season ranked first nationally in goals among defensemen, while tying the Tigers' D1-era single-season program record he totaled a year ago.
- Saturday's tally was also his eighth power play goal this season - the most in Atlantic Hockey and tied for 10th in the country among all skaters.
- Cassaro added two assists to Friday's 9-2 home victory, including his career-high 30th point of the season.
Following a first-round bye, RIT will host a best-of-three quarterfinal series on March 8-10 against the lowest remaining seed following this weekend's opening round. Stay tuned to RITathletics.com and @RITMHKY on X, or download the RIT Athletics Mobile app for the latest schedule updates.
