Women's Hockey opens Atlantic Hockey with two games at Robert Morris

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT women's hockey team hits the road for a pair of Atlantic Hockey America games at Robert Morris on Friday and Saturday (Oct. 10-11). Both games begin at 7:00 p.m.
 
LAST TIME OUT:
RIT dropped a pair of non-conference games at No. 14 Northeastern, losing 3-2 and 3-1. Junior forward Addie Alvarez scored 2:50 into the first period to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead, Friday. Sophomore forward Ireland Stein gave RIT a 2-1 lead on her goal at 17:06 of the first period. Northeastern scored once in the second and again in the third to make it a 3-2 final. Senior goalie Sophia Bellina made 35 saves, the fifth-most in her career. Senior forward Jaidan Fahrny handed out a career-high two assists, while sophomore forward Zoe Ziotas recorded her first collegiate point with an assist.
 
Junior defender Emma Pickering scored a goal and Fahrny and sophomore forward Brac Kelley each had an assist in Saturday's loss. Bellina made 29 saves in goal.
 
ABOUT RIT:
RIT enters the weekend averaging 3.3 goals per game, while allowing 1.8 goals per contest. The Tigers are 7-of-15 on the power play and 12-of-13 on the penalty kill. RIT has won 106-of-184 (57.6%) of its faceoffs.
 
Pickering leads the team in scoring with four points, including a team-best three assists. Alvarez, Fahrny, Stein and first years Kolbee Ashe and Tilli Keranen each have three points and two goals.
 
Pickering leads the team with nine blocked shots and sophomore defender Madison Buziak has seven blocks. First year defenders Laura Dyke and Riley Gramlich each have six blocked shots.
 
Bellina is 1-2 with a 1.68 goals-against average and a .939 save percentage. Sophomore Brenna McNamara is 1-0 record with a 1.00 goals-against average and a .889 save percentage.
 
ATLANTIC HOCKEY RANKINGS:
RIT is second in the league averaging 3.25 goals per game and second allowing 1.75 goals per contest. The Tigers lead the league with seven power play goals, converting a league-best 46.7 percent of its power plays. RIT is fifth in the AHA averaging 12.5 blocked shots per game.
 
Pickering is tied for eighth in the league and tied for fourth amongst defenders with four points. Alvarez is tied for sixth in the AHA with two goals and Pickering and Fahrny tied for sixth with three assists. Bellina is second in the league with a 1.68 goals-against average and a .939 save percentage.
 
MILESTONES:
Alvarez is tied for 51st in career scoring. She needs one point to tie Wendy Stibitz and Keltie Jones for 49th in all-time scoring (56 points). Pickering enters the weekend tied for 75th with 38 career points. She needs two points to tie Danielle LeBlanc and Taylor Thurston for 73rd in career scoring (40 points). Pickering needs one block to reach 140 for her career.
 
Bellina is tied with Laura Chamberlain for eighth all-time with 41 games played. She needs seven games to tie Nicki Werner for seventh (46 games). She is tenth all-time with 2,089 minutes played, ninth all-time with 991 career saves and 11th with a 2.18 career goals-against average.  
 
ABOUT ROBERT MORRIS:
Robert Morris lost a pair of games at Bemidji State last weekend, losing 3-0 and 4-1. Junior goalie Maggie Hatch made 28 saves in Friday's loss. Senior forward Morgan Giannone scored in Saturday's game and sophomore forward Taylor Storey and sophomore defender Emma Golding each had an assist and sophomore goalie Lucy Phillips made 27 stops in goal.
 
Robert Morris enters the weekend third in Atlantic Hockey averaging 3.25 goals per game and fourth allowing 2.75 goals per contest. The Colonials are fifth in the league converting .077 of its power plays, and seventh stopping 64.3 percent of their opponents' power play chances.
 
Sophomore forward Jessica MacKinnon leads Robert Morris and is tied for third in Atlantic Hockey with five points and is tied for third in the league with four assists. Sophomore forward Alaina Giampietro leads RMU and is tied for second in the AHA with three goals. Giannone and first year defender Linnea Misner are tied for second on the team with four points. Sophomore defender Shayne Desjardins is tied for seventh in the league with 10 blocked shots.
 
Hatch is fourth in the AHA with a 2.51 goals-against average and Phillips is fifth with a 2.51 GAA. Hatch is fourth in the league with a .919 save percentage and is eighth averaging 28.50 saves per game.
 
RIT VS. ROBERT MORRIS:
Robert Morris is 31-15-6 all time versus RIT. The Tigers went 2-1-1 against the Colonials last season, including a split in Moon Township.    
  
RANKED OPPONENTS:
RIT plays four ranked opponents in 2025-26 schedule. The Tigers played at No. 14 Northeastern (Oct. 3-4) and hosts No. 12 St. Lawrence (Oct. 16-17). RIT plays at No. 8 Colgate (Nov. 7-8) and will face No. 6 Penn State at home on Nov. 21 and 22 and on the road Feb. 13-14.
 
THEY COME FROM FAR AND WIDE:
The 23 Tigers hail from eight states, five Canadian provinces and two countries in Europe, with the largest groups coming from Ontario (4) and Saskatchewan (4). Players hail from as close as Rochester, NY to as far away as Kuopio, Finland (4,353 miles).
 
ABOUT ATLANTIC HOCKEY AMERICA:
Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) embarks on its second season in 2025-26 following the merger between the Atlantic Hockey Association and College Hockey America. The conference fields 10 men's teams (Bentley University, Canisius University, The College of Holy Cross, Mercyhurst University, Niagara University, Rochester Institute of Technology, Robert Morris University, Sacred Heart University, the United States Air Force Academy and the United States Military Academy), and seven women's teams (University of Delaware, Lindenwood University, Mercyhurst University, Penn State University, Rochester Institute of Technology, Robert Morris University and Syracuse University).
