ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT junior goaltender Tommy Scarfone was named to the watch list for the 2023-24 Mike Richter Award. Given annually to the top NCAA Division I goaltender in the nation. Scarfone was named to the list for the second consecutive year.
- Scarfone is currently second nationally and first in Atlantic Hockey with a .930 save percentage. He is also tied for sixth in the country in victories with a 12-6-1 record and sits 14th with a 2.24 goals against average.
- Named the Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Week a conference-best four times this season as well as both the Atlantic Hockey and Hockey Commissioners Association Goaltender of the Month for October, Scarfone is 8-3-0 with a 2.17 GAA and a .925 save percentage in league play this winter.
- Last week, Scarfone made 33 saves in the Tigers' 4-0 shutout of Clarkson (Jan. 5) to tie Jared DeMichiel '10 for second in program history (D1 era) with his seventh career shutout. He also won his 42nd career game - one shy of the program-record 43 totaled by Logan Drackett '21.
- Scarfone then compiled a career-high 46 saves in last Saturday's 1-1 tie with St. Lawrence, and became only the third D1-era Tiger to surpass the 2,000 career save plateau. He also finished the night by stopping all three Saint penalty shot attempts as the Tigers won the shootout, 1-0.
- Scarfone currently ranks third in program history with 2,049 saves, 73 appearances and 71 starts as well as second with a 2.38 career goals against average. He set a single-season program record with 934 saves a season ago.
- The list will be pared down to three finalists later this season before the winner is announced on Friday, April 12, on the eve of the Frozen Four National Championship game.
