Women's Soccer beats Wheaton, 1-0

Box Score  ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT women's soccer team defeated Wheaton College 1-0 earning their first win of the season, Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After a slow start, the first shot of the game was taken by senior midfielder Jessie Gomez in the 19th minute, but it was saved by Wheaton goalkeeper Myah Schoolman.
  • The Tigers had a strong defense that held Wheaton to only two shots in the first half
  • Gomez had another great opportunity in the 47th minute, but the shot was about a foot outside the left post
  • In the 58th minute, sophomore Elena Onodera was able to find the back of the net for the game-winning goal which was assisted by juniors Rachel Marriott and Olivia Harris

GAME NOTES

  • Sophomore goalkeeper Emily Sanchez started for the Tigers once again after missing the last game due to an injury
  • RIT had 11 shots compared to Wheaton's four and none of Wheaton's shots were on goal
  • Both RIT and Wheaton had three corner kick opportunities

RIT will host Penn State Behrend Saturday, September 9th for a 2:00PM kickoff at Tiger Stadium.
