Softball falls, 9-1 (5 inn.) to Ithaca in Liberty League Tournament elimination game

TROY, N.Y. –  The RIT Softball team fell, 9-1 (5 inn.), to Ithaca in an elimination game on day-two of the Liberty League Softball Tournament, Friday, hosted by RPI.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Ithaca scored four runs on four hits and an error in the bottom of the second inning.
  • The Bombers brought four more across on four hits in the bottom of the fourth.
  • RIT got one back in the fifth after first-year Maria Minemier was hit by a pitch and junior Kristin Hino knocked a single to right to lead off the inning. First-year Emma Merkley later advanced both runners with a sacrifice bunt before senior Elise Guth brought Minemier home from third on an infield groundout.
  • Ithaca scored in the bottom of the fifth after drawing a leadoff walk and brought the winning run around on an error, a sacrifice bunt and an infield ground-out. 

RIT finished the season with a 13-23-1 record, including a 6-8 Liberty League mark to qualify for the conference tournament for the first time since 2017.
