ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT sophomore forwards Christian Catalano (1G/2A) and Tyler Fukakusa (2A) led the Tigers to a 5-3 exhibition victory over visiting Guelph (Ont.), Saturday.
Graduate student defenseman Dimitri Mikrogiannakis scored off a Fukakusa assist 3:17 into the game before senior forward Evan Miller finished a Catalano feed at the end of a rush 48 seconds later for an early 2-0 lead. Catalano later made it a 3-0 first-period Tiger lead off a Fukakusa pass with four minutes on the clock.
Graduate student forward Nick Cafarelli stole a puck in the neutral zone and beat Guelph goaltender Colton Inczne, one-on-one, to push the Tigers to a 4-0 lead at 7:13 of the second.
The Gryphons got on the board at 9:44 of the second and later scored 1:49 into the third to pull back within two, 4-2.
Guelph pulled its goaltender for a 6-on-4 opportunity following a Tiger penalty with 2:29 left in regulation, but RIT junior forward Tyler Mahan found the empty net a minute later to put the game out of reach.
GAME NOTES
- Tiger sophomore goaltender Ethan David stopped 21 shots in two periods of action before junior Trent Burnham stopped seven shots over the final 20 minutes to backstop the victory.
- First-year defenseman Ryan Williams logged two assists, while junior forward Philippe Jacques also logged one.
- Fukakusa won a game-high 14-of-23 faceoffs.
- RIT finished with a 42-31 shot advantage.
- Guelph converted two power play goals on five chances while killing four RIT power plays.

RIT returns to Atlantic Hockey America play next weekend with a pair of road contests with Canisius. Both Friday and Saturday's games are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. faceoffs at the LECOM Harborcenter.
