Six things you need to know about the 2023 Women's Soccer Team

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT women's soccer team opens the 2023 season Friday (Sept. 1) against the University of Rochester. Here are the top six things you need to know about the Tigers heading into the season.

1. RIT LOOKING FOR ANOTHER NCAA TOURNAMENT APPEARANCE
RIT defeated Johnson & Wales in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Division III Tournament, which was their fourth tournament appearance. The Tigers also made their 10th appearance in the Liberty League tournament and reached the semifinals.

2. GOMEZ BACK TO LINK UP RIT's DEFENSE AND ATTACK
Senior midfielder Jessie Gomez returns for the 2023 season. Gomez played in 18 matches last season. The senior midfielder was a Third Team United Soccer Coaches All-Region selection and was a Second Team All-Liberty League selection last season.

3. NEW STARTING GOALKEEPER
With the loss of last season's starting goalkeeper, sophomore Emily Sanchez will start in goal this season. Sanchez appeared in seven matches last season, starting in five. In those seven games, the sophomore goalkeeper allowed only two goals, had 14 saves and a record of 5-0.

4. VETERAN DEFENDERS BACK IN 2023
There will be several familiar faces back on defense this season. Seniors Elle Hallock and Adriana Rodriguez, junior Amber Flynn and sophomore Roberta Moger all return for the 2023 season.

5. NEW FACES FOR 2023
RIT will feature seven newcomers to the roster in 2023. First-years Sophia Reilly (Mt. Pleasant, MI/Mt. Pleasant), Sidona Hackl-Gerenstein (Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood), Isabelle Kligge (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor), Emma Pedro (Westfield, MA/Westfield), Nicole Joffe (Hingham, MA/Tabor Academy), sophomore Sarah Wier (Elma, NY/Iroquois) and junior Rachel Marriott, who previously played for the University of South Carolina Upstate (Oakville, ON/St. Thomas Aquinas) will all vie for playing time in 2023.

6. 2023 SCHEDULE BREAKDOWN
RIT will play 16 regular season games, including nine in the highly competitive Liberty League. The Tigers will play nine games at Tiger Stadium and seven away from home. RIT begins the season on Friday, Sept. 1 at home against the University of Rochester. They then have a stretch of four home games against Plattsburgh (Sept. 3), Wheaton (Sept. 8), Penn State Behrend (Sept. 9) and St. John Fisher (Sept. 13). The Tigers then travel to Geneseo (Sept. 16) and return home to open up Liberty League play versus William Smith (Sept. 20). RIT closes out September by traveling to Clarkson (Sept. 23) and Bard (Sept. 30) After a road game at Nazareth (Oct. 3), the Tigers will host St. Lawrence, Skidmore, and RPI.
