Six Tigers named Track & Field/Cross Country Academic All-District
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Six members of the RIT Track & Field/Cross Country programs were named College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District, announced Tuesday.
Four individuals from the women's team - junior Emily DiMarco, graduate student Catherine Fox, graduate student Amelia Gilbert and junior Allison Regnante – were honored, along with senior Andrew Bernacki and graduate student Aidan Hughes from the men's team.
The Academic All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the track and in the classroom. To be considered, nominees had to have achieved at least a sophomore standing and a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average while playing a prominent role on the field of competition.
DiMarco (3.78, Interior Design) finished an All-American 10th in the discus (146' 6"/44.66m) at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships this spring. She was also named the Most Outstanding Field Performer at the Liberty League Outdoor Championships following a first-place effort in the discus (133' 7"/40.72m) and a runner-up finish in the shot put (41' 0.25"/12.50m). She also won the shot put at the Liberty League Indoor Championships (40' 8.25"/12.40m) to go along with a fifth-place showing in the weight throw (45' 3"/13.70m).
Fox (3.96/4.00, Mechanical Engineering) finished runner-up in the pole vault during both the Liberty League Indoor (11' 4.5"/3.47m) and Outdoor (11' 6.25"/3.51m) Championships. She also broke her own program indoor record with a personal-best leap of 11' 10.5"/3.62m last winter before setting the outdoor program record with an 11' 10"/3.61m performance this spring.
Gilbert (3.93/4.00, Biomedical Engineering) garnered all-conference honors with a sixth-place effort at the Liberty League Cross Country Championships before qualifying for the NCAA Division III Championships following an all-region 16th-place outcome at the Niagara Region Championships. She also anchored the Tigers' distance medley relay that placed second at the Liberty League Indoor Championships (12:25.30) and fourth at the Atlantic Region Indoor Championships (12:25.30). Gilbert's spring included a program-record performance in the 3,000 (10:25.45) as well as a fourth-place showing in the 1,500 (4:40.27) at the Liberty League Outdoor Championships.
Regnante (3.99, New Media Design) logged a runner-up finish in the long jump (18' 2.25"/5.54m) and finished sixth in the 100 hurdles (15.18) during the Liberty League Outdoor Championships and also led off the program record-setting 4x100 relay (48.72) that finished seventh at the Atlantic Region Outdoor Championships. Her winter was highlighted by a second-place finish in the long jump (17' 4.75"/5.30m) and a third-place effort in the 60 hurdles with a PR 9.23 at the Liberty League Indoor Championships.
Bernacki (3.93, Mechanical Engineering) finished second with a PR in the javelin (189' 5"/57.73m) during the Liberty League Outdoor Championships before placing fifth at the Atlantic Region Outdoor Championships (184' 3"/56.15m).
Hughes (3.83/3.91, Biomedical Engineering) logged a runner-up finish in the weight throw (54' 1.75"/16.50m) at the Liberty League Indoor Championships last winter. His spring was highlighted by a PR for a second-place effort in the hammer (174' 8"/53.24m) at the Liberty League Outdoor Championships.
DiMarco was selected to move on to the national ballot, where she will be in consideration for Academic All-America status, to be announced later this month.
