Men's Soccer wins 1-0 at Hobart in opening round of Liberty League Tournament

GENEVA, N.Y. – RIT junior forward Selorm Dake scored in the 82nd minute to lead the fifth-seeded Tigers to a 1-0 win at fourth-seeded Hobart in the opening round of the Liberty League Men's Soccer Tournament, Tuesday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Senior goalie Jason Trapp made two saves in a scoreless first half, including a diving stop on a shot by Hobart's Griffin Coutts in the 22nd minute.
  • Senior midfielder Rom Wasserman had two shots on goal in the opening half, including one in the second minute inside the Hobart penalty area.
  • The Tigers had two great chances early in the second half from junior forward Jake Donahue and senior midfielder John Lucas.
  • Donahue picked up an errant pass in the 47th minute and broke in 1-on-1 with Hobart keeper Thomas Chyzowych. Donahue's shot from near the penalty dot was kicked aside by Chyzowych.
  • Lucas had a chance in the 49th minute from 10 yards out saved by the Statesmen keeper.
  • Trapp came off his line to make one his four second half saves on a shot from Steven Pickering with 17:43 remaining in regulation to keep the game scoreless.
  • Lucas fired a shot from the top of the Hobart box in the 82nd minute. Chyzowych made the diving save, but the rebound came to Dake who tapped in a shot from six yards out to give the Tigers the lead.  

GAME NOTES

  • Shots were even, 12-12. RIT had six shots on target to six for the Statesmen.
  • Trapp made six saves in net for RIT.
  • The Tigers had five corner kicks to one for Hobart.
