Baseball handles Keuka at home

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT sophomore first baseman Trent Rapp and sophomore third basemen Charlie Slaymaker went 3-for-4 with a combined 7 RBI as the Tigers defeated Keuka, 21-11, Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Keuka scored two runs in the first inning off of an RBI double and a batter being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded
  • Leadoff batter junior shortstop Randy Dodig doubled and sophomore second basemen Jarin Moses got on base with a single in the top of the first. The next batter Rapp, then hit a home-run giving the Tigers a 3-2 lead
  • The Wolves scored five runs in the second, regaining their early lead
  • In the bottom of the second, Moses earned an RBI single on a fielder's choice that scored Dodig, followed by an RBI double from Slaymaker that scored two runners, tying the game at seven
  • Dodig singled to left field, scoring junior center fielder Sam Kulp and putting the Tigers back in front 8-7 in the third
  • RBI singles from Rapp and senior left fielder John Bagley, along with an RBI double from Slaymaker and a sacrifice fly from Kulp, scored four runs and gave RIT a 12-7 lead in the fourth
  • In the fifth inning, Moses and junior right fielder Adam Marsh scored on a fielding error by the Keuka second baseman. The next batter, graduate student catcher Gil Merod singled to right field and scored Slaymaker. Senior designated hitter Kyle Poorman then scored from third on a wild pitch, increasing the Tigers' lead nine
  • First-year third basemen Ben Fitzgerald hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Dodig and a wild pitch scored Moses in the sixth, giving RIT an 18-7 lead
  • The Wolves scored four runs in the seventh, cutting the deficit to seven runs
  • In the bottom of the seventh, first-year catcher Isaac Braegelmann scored on a wild pitch and sophomore right fielder Caelan Kim earned an RBI single that scored first-year center fielder Mikey Zacher and increased RIT's lead to nine
  • Sophomore designated hitter Roberto Reade hit an RBI double in the eighth, that put the Tigers in front by ten runs, ending the game

GAME NOTES

  • Moses scored a team-high five runs, scoring every time he got on base
  • Junior relief pitcher Ryan Merkov and sophomore relief pitcher Liam Miller did not allow any runs 
  • Braegelmann earned his first collegiate hit
