Men’s Swimming & Diving sweeps 2024-25 Liberty League Major Awards

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – After winning the Liberty League title for the fourth consecutive year, the RIT men's swimming & diving team swept this season's conference major awards, announced Friday.

Graduate student Drew Scheib was named the Liberty League Swimmer of the Year, senior Gellert Kish was Diver of the Year, first-year Josh Berty earned Rookie of the Year, and head coach Phil Baretela, diving coach Cliff Devries and assistant coach Daniel Dubois were named Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year.

After placing first in seven events at the Liberty League Championships, Scheib qualified and competed in three individual and four relay events at the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships, earning First Team All-American in the 200 Free relay and Second Team All-American in the 100 Fly, 200 and 400 Medley relays. Scheib, the Liberty League Championship Men's Swimmer of the Meet and was named Liberty League Swimmer of the Week four times this past season.    

Named Diver of the Year for the fourth time, Kish earned First Team All-American in both the 1M and 3M dives at the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships, placing sixth in the 3M dive and seventh in the 1M dive. At the Liberty League Championships, the senior won both diving events, earning Diver of the Meet for the fourth straight year. This season, Kish was named Liberty League Diver of the Week five times.

At the Liberty League Championships, Berty won the 1,650 Free with a championship meet and program-record time of 15:57.71. The newcomer was also the fastest first-year swimmer in the 500 Free, placing fourth in the finals after posting the fastest time in the prelims. Berty also swam legs in the winning 200 IM and 800 freestyle relays that set program records.

Baretela, Devries, and Dubois earn Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year honors for the fifth straight year. They led the Tigers to an 8-1 record in dual meets and the team's fourth straight league title. A total of seven men's swimmers and divers qualified for the NCAA Championships as the Tigers ended the season ranked 19th in the CSCAA Division III poll.
