ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The third-seeded RIT women's soccer team advanced to the Liberty League Tournament semifinals with a 1-0 victory over sixth-seeded Union in quarterfinal action, Tuesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior forward Elena Onodera scored the game-winning goal for RIT in the 56th minute, finishing a shot from the top left corner of the box into the upper right corner of the goal off assists from Valeria Luzio and Bella Coccio.
- Union's Anne Pearl fired two free-kick shots late in the match, one in the 84th minute and another in the 87th minute, as both shots were near misses on the goal frame.
GAME NOTES
- Senior goalkeeper Emily Sanchez finished with seven saves to earn the shutout, her sixth of the season.
- Sanchez's seven saves are a season high.
- Sophomore midfielder Lily Doucette and Onodera led the Tigers with one shot on goal apiece.
- Union outshot RIT, 15-to-7, including 7-to-2 in shots on goal.
