Scarfone named Semifinalist for Richter Award

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT junior Tommy Scarfone has been named a semifinalist for the 2023-24 Mike Richter Award, presented by the Hockey Commissioners Association (HCA).

One of 32 goalies to garner watch list recognition last month, Scarfone is now one of 10 semifinalists for the award, given annually to the top NCAA Division I goaltender in the nation.

  • Scarfone has been named the HCA Goaltender of the Month as well as the Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the month twice this season, and has been named Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Week a league-best four times this winter. He was also nominated for the Hobey Baker Award for the second-straight season.
  • Scarfone picked up his 17th victory of the season last Friday – tied for fifth nationally this winter – while becoming only the third D1-era Tiger goalie to appear in 80 games.
  •  He entered the week tied for seventh nationally with a .924 save percentage, while his 2.35 goals against average was 15th. His three shutouts this season are tied for the fourth.
  •  In 18 Atlantic Hockey contests this season, he has compiled a 13-4-1 record with a .918 save percentage and a 2.36 goals against average.
  •  Scarfone became the winningest goaltender in D1-era program history last month and owns a career 47-27-4 record. He also became only the third Tiger to surpass the 2,000-career save plateau in December with 2,234 stops to date.
  • Three finalists will be selected next month with the winner announced prior to the Frozen Four in April.

No.20 RIT hosts Air Force this Friday and Saturday (Feb. 16-17). Faceoffs are slated for 7:05 p.m. and 5:05 p.m., respectively.
