RIT Athletics Preview: Oct. 7 – Oct. 13

WOMEN'S HOCKEY
RIT split their series at Union over the weekend. After falling 4-0 on Friday, the Tigers earned a 4-3 overtime win on Saturday to improve their early season record to 3-1-0.

In the win, sophomore Addie Alvarez scored the game-winner just 30 seconds into the first overtime period.

Senior goalkeeper Sarah Coe recorded 26 saves to record her second win of the season.

The Tigers return home this weekend for two games against No. 7 Colgate.

MEN'S HOCKEY
RIT split their two road games over the weekend to begin the 2024-25 season. On Friday, the Tigers rallied to tie the game late in the third period before falling to St. Lawrence, 3-2 in overtime. The following day, RIT edged Clarkson, 3-2, to pick up the win.
 
Defender Dimitri Mikrogiannakis scored both goals against St. Lawrence as senior forward Tanner Andrew scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with two seconds remaining in regulation.
 
The Tigers visit Mercyhurst for games on Friday (Oct. 11) and Saturday (Oct. 12).

WOMEN'S SOCCER
The Tigers picked up a pair of wins last week, defeating Nazareth 4-1 on Tuesday before earning a 7-0 win over Bard on Saturday.

Senior midfielder Olivia Harris led RIT with three goals and two assists over the two games.

The team visits No. 14 Rochester on Tuesday (Oct. 8) at 5 p.m. before traveling to face St. Lawrence on Saturday (Oct. 12)

MEN'S SOCCER
RIT earned a pair of shutout wins last week. On Wednesday, the Tigers defeated Penn State Behrend, 1-0, before getting past Bard on the road by the same score.

First-year forward Idriss Diallo scored hist first career goal on Wednesday. Junior midfielder Tate Pottle scored his first goal of the season on Saturday.

In goal, senior goalkeeper Jason Trapp made 11 saves over the two games to get the pair of shutout wins.

The team visits Geneseo on Wednesday (Oct. 9) at 4 p.m. before hosting St. Lawrence on Saturday (Oct. 12)

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
RIT fell at home on Friday to Alfred State in straight sets (25-21, 25-9, 25-19), snapping their nine-match win streak.

Senior outside hitter Samantha Cox led the Tigers with seven kills and three block assists.
 
RIT is home this Friday (Oct. 11) and Saturday (Oct. 12) for matches against Bard and Union.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
RIT senior Sierra Danieu took first place out of a field of 140 runners to lead the women's cross country team to a third place finish at Fredonia's Kara Hall Memorial Invitational on Saturday.

Danieu crossed the finish line with a time of 22:20.4 in the 6k race, more than 40 seconds faster than second place finisher Faith Coyle of Oswego.

The Tigers head to Houghton on Saturday (Oct. 12) to compete in the Highlander Invitational.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
RIT junior Derick Koen placed fourth out of 184 runners with an 8k time of 25:40.6 to lead the Tigers to a fourth-place team finish at Fredonia's Kara Hall Memorial Invitational on Saturday.

Koen was just 28 seconds behind Geneseo's Ryan Hagen, who took first place with time of 25:12.4.

The Tigers head to Houghton on Saturday (Oct. 12) to compete in the Highlander Invitational.

MEN'S TENNIS
In their lone match of the week, RIT got past Allegheny, 4-3, at home on Wednesday.

RIT senior Joel Pho came back to win his match at third singles.

The team of first year Yu Tanimoto and sophomore Alec Turcotte came back from a 3-0 deficit to beat Anton Hedlund and Levente Mihaly, 7-5 win at first doubles.
Sophomore Luke Weber was a winner at sixth singles and second doubles.

RIT returns to action on Saturday (Oct. 12) when they visit Daemen for their final match of the fall season.

MEN'S & WOMEN'S ROWING
The Tigers are set to compete in the Head of the Genesee regatta on Saturday. Events start north of the Jefferson Rd. bridge and runs north to Genesee Valley Park.

MEN'S & WOMEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING
The Tigers open their season at RPI on Saturday.
 
Last season, the women's team went 4-2 in dual meets and placed second at the Liberty League Championships as the men's team went a perfect 6-0 and winning the Liberty League title.
 
A total of five Tigers earned All-American honors at the NCAA Division III Championships.
