Women’s Basketball rallies past Nazareth, 71-65

ROCHESTER N.Y. - First year forward Faye Kaplinski rallied RIT to a 71-65 win over Nazareth, Thursday, in the Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout. Kaplinski scored 19 points after shooting 8 of12 from the field.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Nazareth took a 20-13 lead early, shooting 9 of 19 from the field to RIT's 5 of 13 in the first quarter.
  • RIT tied the game at 20 with a 7-0 run to start the second quarter.
  • Nazareth dominated the remainder of the quarter, creating a strong 8-point lead. However, RIT rallied in the final minutes to head into halftime trailing 33-30.
  • RIT took their first lead of the game in the third quarter when sophomore guard Madeline Ramsgard made back-to-back layups, to give the Tigers a 42-39 lead. They would continue to cement the lead, going on an 8-4 run to finish the 3rd quarter leading by five points.
  • First-year forward Faye Kaplinski opened the fourth quarter with a mid-range jumper, piloting a 6-2 run.
  • Nazareth scored seven unanswered run to bring the game within two with 3:57 left.
  • Sophomore guard Maddy Ramsgard hit a clutch three-pointer with 2:19 on the clock to make it a 63-58 RIT lead before the team converted free throws in the final moments to solidify the win.

 
GAME NOTES

  • Senior guard Kaitlyn Bockelman scored her first double-double of the season with 13 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
  • First-year forward Faye Kaplinski went 8 of 12 from the field and 3 of 5 from the free throw line to lead the Tigers with 19 points.  
  • First-year forward Ben Kayser-Cochran grabbed 7 rebounds, 2 steals, and 11 points.
