No. 3 Men's Lacrosse runs past Skidmore, 20-12

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT senior Clifford Gaston tied his career high with seven goals to lead the No. 3 Tigers to a 20-12 win over Skidmore, Friday.
 
Gaston finished with eight points and senior Nate Senez handed out a career-high seven assists. Senior Ethan Harkins scored four goals and junior Tyson Allison scored three goals. Graduate students Ian Dinga and Seth Grottenthaler and first year Ryan Bullock each had a goal and an assist while first year Brenden McLeod scored his first collegiate goal.
 
Junior goalie Alex Zborowski made four saves. Sophomores Logan Fletcher and Adam Wong each caused two turnovers, and fifth year Nick Farrell won 11-of-16 face offs and had six ground balls.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Gaston scored five of his seven goals in the opening quarter. The Tigers ran off five straight, extending their lead to 6-1 on Gaston's goal with 4:40 remaining in the quarter.
  • Senez assisted on five of the Tiger's six first-quarter goals.
  • RIT scored the first three goals of the second quarter, extending its lead to 9-1 on Gaston's goal with 10:27 to play in the half.
  • Cooper Haas broke RIT's eight-goal run with his goal with 3:02 remaining in the half to cut the Tiger's lead to 9-2.
  • Harkins and Grottenthaler scored the first two goals of the third quarter to give RIT an 11-2 lead early in the second half.
  • Jon Byrne and Michael Aiello tallied back-to-back goals to make it 11-4.
  • The Tigers ran off six straight goals extending their lead to 16-4 on Allison's goal with 1:05 to play in the third.
  • Allison, Mcleod and senior Jack Budway each scored for RIT in the fourth quarter.
  • Skidmore scored eight goals in the quarter, including a man-up goal from Jon Bouvier to make it a 20-12 final.

 
GAME NOTES:

  • RIT outshot Skidmore, 58-37
  • The Tigers were 21-of-25 on clearing attempts and went 1-for-2 with the extra attacker
  • RIT won 20-of-36 face offs and had 45 ground balls
  • Gaston is the third player in program history to scored 200 career goals and has 205 for his career.
