Softball loses 8-0 and 13-8 to St. John Fisher
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT softball team dropped a pair of games to St. John Fisher, losing 8-0 and 13-8, Wednesday.
GAME ONE (ST. JOHN FISHER 8, RIT 0)
- Maddie Donlin scored on a wild pitch to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
- Fisher scored seven runs in the top of the fourth inning. Donlin hit a triple to right-center field driving in Madi Rose and Ainsley Evanetski. Taylor Shackleton singled in Donlin and Amalia DeMarino walked with bases loaded, driving in Shackleton. DeMartino and Mari Spitz each scored in the inning.
- First-year pitcher Katie Schneider took the loss on the mound allowing eight runs on 10 hits. She walked seven and struck out two.
- Fisher's Cassidy Ormond threw a perfect game, striking out four Tigers.
GAME TWO (ST. JOHN FISHER 13, RIT 8)
- Rose scored in the top of the first to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.
- RIT scored one run in the bottom of the first to tie the score at 1-1. Junior Lillian Rienstra reached on an error and first-year Emma Merkley singled. Junior Maddy Cook singled, driving in Rienstra from second.
- The Tigers scored a run in the bottom of the second to take a 2-1 lead. First-year Kathryn Baretela led off the inning with a triple to right-center field. Two batters later, junior Bailey Kehl drove in Baretela on a ground-out to second.
- Fisher scored 10 runs in the top of the fourth inning to take an 11-2 lead. Evanetski and CC Holmes each hit three-run home runs in the top of the fourth, while Spitz and DeMartino each doubled two runs.
- RIT scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth. Cook homered and Baretela scored on a fielder's choice. Guth singled to drive in sophomore Bella Pioggia and Merkley singled, driving in Guth and Kehl to cut Fisher's lead to 11-7.
- Fisher scored twice in the top of the seventh, while RIT tacked one run in the bottom of the inning to make it a 13-8 final.
- Merkley went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Cook went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.
- Schneider took the loss on the mound allowing 10 runs on eight hits.
