Softball splits with visiting Keuka, falling 8-6; winning 23-3
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT Softball team split a doubleheader opposite Keuka to open the home portion of the 2025 schedule, falling 8-6 in the opener before bouncing back with a 23-3 game-two victory in five innings.
GAME 1 - KEUKA 8, RIT 6
- Senior Maddy Cook went 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI, while senior Erin Ozminkowski finished 2-for-4 with a homerun, a double, two runs scored and an RBI.
- RIT opened the scoring in the bottom of the first on a RBI single by Cook, but Keuka later responded with four runs on three hits and a Tiger error in the top of the third.
- RIT got one back with two outs in the bottom of the fourth on Ozminkowski's second homerun of the season, but Keuka retook a three-run lead, 5-2, with a run in the top of the fifth.
- The Tigers battled back to tie the game with three runs in the sixth. Senior Bailey Kehl and Cook knocked back-to-back doubles to start the inning before first-year Kate Carlone later brought them both home with a bases-loaded single to center. Senior Kristin Hino followed with a RBI single to center to plate Ozminkowski with the tying run.
- The Wolves put together a three-run seventh and held RIT a single run in the bottom of the inning to clinch the opening win.
GAME 2 - RIT 23, KEUKA 3 (5 inn.)
- The Tigers totaled season-highs in runs, hits (21), RBI (19) and doubles (7) en route to the victory.
- RIT allowed three runs in the top of the first inning, but responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning and seven in the second before putting together a decisive 11-run third.
- Ozminkowski went 4-for-4 with a double, four runs scored and two RBI.
- Cook finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored and was one of five players with three RBI. She also tied the single-game program record with three doubles, tying four other players who achieved the feat, while also moving into sixth place on the career RBI list with 78 to date.
- Carlone and classmate Sylvia White each ended up 3-for-4 with three RBI, including White's first career homerun.
- First-year Mackenzie Blair earned her first win in a Tiger uniform, only yielding three hits and two earned runs while striking out seven.
