Women's Hockey loses 2-1 to Penn State in game one of CHA Semifinal

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA – RIT senior forward Lindsay Maloney scored in the No. 4 Tigers 2-1 loss at No. 1 Penn State in game one of their College Hockey America Semifinal best-of-three series, Friday.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • RIT sophomore goalie Sophia Bellina made 12 saves in a scoreless first period.
  • Sophomore forward Jaidan Fahrny had two of the Tiger's seven first-period shots.
  • RIT's best chance of the opening frame came from junior forward Jordyn Bear with a shot on net from the slot late in the period.
  • Penn State's Mya Vaslet scored 3:43 into the second period to give the Nittany Lions the lead. Bellina saved Vaslet's initial shot, but the rebound came back to her and she fired a shot past Bellina for the goal.
  • Penn State took a 2-0 lead on Maggie MacEachern's goal at 14:48 of the second period.
  • RIT got one back late in the third period when Maloney scored off an assist from first-year forward Addie Alvarez at 19:27 to cut the Penn State lead to 2-1.

 
 
GAME NOTES

  • Penn State outshot RIT, 46-23.
  • Bellina tied her career-high making 44 saves in net for the Tigers. It is the fourth time this season she has made 44 saves in a game.
  • Junior defensewoman Bailey Kehl had four of the Tiger's 13 blocks.
