Baseball comes up short against U of R on Senior Day; 7-4

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT baseball team came up short against Rochester on Senior Day, falling 7-4, Friday.

RIT honored seniors Matthew Chase, Zach Mecca, Kyle Poorman, Eric Sipling and Alex Slotter before the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Rochester took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first on a 2 RBI double, followed by a base runner stealing home
  • In the bottom of the first, senior Kyle Poorman tripled to right center, scoring sophomore Trent Rapp and junior Adam Marsh, cutting Rochester's lead to one
  • The Yellow Jackets scored an additional run in the second on a sacrifice fly, making it 4-2
  • After five scoreless innings due to the combined efforts of graduate pitchers Alex Slotter and Eric Sipling, Rochester increased their lead to five runs in the eighth. The first two runs were scored on two-consecutive defensive errors and the third came later in the inning on a failed pickoff attempt at first base
  • In the bottom of the eighth, junior Randy Dodig scored on a passed ball, making it 7-3
  • Sophomore pitcher Luc Rising struck out three straight batters in the top of the ninth
  • Sophomore Charlie Slaymaker scored the Tigers' fourth and final run on an RBI single from junior Sam Kulp in the ninth

GAME NOTES

  • Poorman had a team-high 2 RBI
  • Sipling and Rising both had no-hitters in the combined three and two-third innings they pitched
  • Senior John Bagley went 2-for-4 with one double and one triple

RIT closes out the regular season with a doubleheader at Rochester Sunday (Apr. 29) with game one set to start at 12:00 p.m.
