Men's Hockey travels to Army for Atlantic Hockey doubleheader

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The RIT men's hockey team travels to West Point, N.Y. for an Atlantic Hockey doubleheader this Friday (7:05 PM) and Saturday (4:05 PM) versus Army.

The Tigers look to keep things rolling after taking five out of six points at previously unbeaten Holy Cross last week with a 3-2 OT win on Friday and a 3-2 regulation victory on Saturday. The Black Knights will be in the hunt for their first win of the season, most recently falling at Sacred Heart, 6-1, on Tuesday.

TIGER TRACKS
Junior Tommy Scarfone was named the Hockey Commissioners Association Goaltender of the Month, as well as the Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Month, Wednesday. Scarfone was recognized after opening the season with a 4-1 record, registering a 1.98 goals against average and a .941 save percentage.

Scarfone also landed his second Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Week honor after backstopping both wins. He followed up Friday's 28-save effort, which included five stops in overtime, with a season-high 40-save effort on Saturday for his 24th career game with at least 30 stops.

  • Junior forward Tanner Andrew scored Friday's overtime game-winner off an assist by senior defenseman Aiden Hansen-Bukata 1:20 into extra time. Junior forward Carter Wilkie opened the scoring midway through the second period and, after the Crusaders scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the third, sophomore forward Simon Isabelle tied the game with 5:19 left in regulation.
  • Holy Cross scored 30 seconds into Saturday's rematch, before junior forward Grady Hobbs and senior forward Cody Laskosky later gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead at the first intermission. First-year forward Christian Catalano tucked a loose puck home off senior defenseman Gianfranco Cassaro's blast from the right point for his first RIT goal and what proved to be the game winner with 49.8 seconds left in the second. 
  • Scarfone currently ranks second in Atlantic Hockey with a 1.98 goals against average and a .941 save percentage. He also moved past Jared DeMichiel '10 for sixth on RIT's Division I-era list with 1,639 career stops to date, trailing Louis Menard '09 (1,705) in fifth by 66 entering the week.
  • RIT ranks second in Atlantic Hockey with 3.00 goals per game and sits third in scoring defense, only allowing 2.50 goals per game.
  • Laskosky entered the week leading Atlantic Hockey with five goals, 0.83 goals per game, eight points and 1.33 points per game. He notched two goals and an assist in the Tigers' 4-2 victory over Sacred Heart (Oct. 20) after logging a goal and an assist in the 3-0 shutout of Notre Dame (Oct. 14). 
  • Andrew entered the week tied for third in the AHA with five assists as well as 0.83 assists per game, logging one is assist in all but one of RIT's six games thus far.  
  • Wilkie had a five-game point scoring streak to start the season snapped in Saturday's Holy Cross decision. He started the season with a goal in three straight games and enters the weekend with four goals and three assists. 
  • Both of Cassaro's goals have been game-winners this season, notching back-to-back winners against Notre Dame and Sacred Heart. 
  • Senior defenseman Dimitri Mikrogiannakis leads RIT with 13 blocked shots, including three on three occasions, while Hansen-Bukata is second with 10 blocks, including three against Notre Dame.
  • RIT Head Coach Wayne Wilson welcomed his third grandson into the world last Saturday as his son, Stu and his wife, Molly, gave birth to John Theodore "Teddy" Wilson. His daughter, Stephanie, and her husband, Kyle, also have two boys – Carter (6) and Calvin (2).
