McVean honored by Rochester Press-Radio Club
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT Men's Basketball coach Bob McVean was named the Rochester Press Radio Club's Charlie Wagner and Christine Wagner Welch Founders Award in the annual Celebration of Champions ceremony at Innovative Field, June 13.
The award is given annually to those who promote sports on a local level with commitment and inspiration.
McVean completed his 39th season at the helm in 2022-23 with 599 victories, which is fourth-most among active NCAA Division III coaches.
He was inducted into the Wendy's College Classic Hall of Fame in 2017, Pavilion Central School Hall of Fame in 2015, Frontier Walk of Fame in 2014 and the RIT Athletics Hall of Fame in 2011.
During his tenure, McVean has amassed two Wendy's College Classic Tournament titles, six Empire 8 Conference championships and three number-one seeds in the East region of the NCAA Division III Tournament. He is a two-time National Association of Basketball Coaches East Region Coach of the Year and seven-time Empire 8 Coach of the Year.
The mission of the Rochester-Press-Radio Club is to support the Rochester Press-Radio Children's Charities Fund, Inc. through fundraising, volunteering, and support for causes benefiting children and families in Rochester and surrounding areas.
