Men's Lacrosse lands eight USILA All-Americans
ROCHESTER, NY -- Eight members from of the RIT men's lacrosse team were named 2022 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-Americans, Thursday. Senior midfielder Ryan Barnable was named the Fran McAll Outstanding Midfielder, while senior LSM Taylor Jensen was named the Long Pole Midfielder of the Year.
Barnable and Jensen were first team selections. Senior midfielder Marley Angus was a second team selection, while senior attackman Quinn Commandant and sophomore defenseman Mike Grace were third team picks. Junior attackman Luke Pilcher, senior goalie Drew Hutchison and senior defensive midfielder Pent Eistrat earned honorable mention accolades.
Barnable joins Allister Warren (2015) and Shawn Nally (2018) as winners of the prestigious Fran McAll Award. A 2021 USILA First Team All-American, Barnable is fourth on the team in scoring with 60 points on 33 goals and 27 assists. He has seven points on two goals and six assists in four NCAA Tournament games, including four assists in last Sunday's 26-15 win over Tufts in the semifinal. A 2022 Tewaarton Trophy Watch List selection, Barnable is fifth all-time in scoring at RIT with 238 points on 117 goals and 121 assists, which is fifth all-time.
The 2022 Liberty League Co-Defensive Player of the Year, Jensen leads RIT with 45 caused turnovers, averaging 2.04 per contest. He is second on the team with 76 ground balls and has contributed 13 points on five goals and eight assists. A 2021 Honorable Mention All-American, Jensen has 14 ground balls, 13 caused turnovers and a goal and two assists in four NCAA Tournament games, including a career-high eight caused turnovers and five ground balls in last Sunday's 26-15 win over Tufts in the semifinal. Jensen joins Matt Hossack (2015, 2016), Eli Salama (2018) and Trevor Smyth (2019) as winners of the Long Pole Midfielder of the Year Award.
Angus is third on the team in scoring with 68 points on 40 goals and 28 assists. A 2021 Honorable Mention All-American, Angus has 12 points on seven goals and five assists in four NCAA Tournament games, including two goals and three assists in a 26-15 win over Tufts in last weekend's semifinal. Angus has recorded at least one point in all 22 games this season, including a season-high six points in a 16-15 win at No. 4 St. John Fisher (2g, 4a) and in the Tigers 14-13 win against Union (4g, 2a).
Grace is second on the team with 20 caused turnovers and third with 58 ground balls. A 2022 First Team All-Liberty League selection, Grace has six caused turnovers and 12 ground balls in four NCAA Tournament games, including three caused turnovers and three ground balls in the Tigers 20-14 win over Bowdoin in the quarterfinal. Grace grabbed a season-high six ground balls in the Tigers 17-9 win at St. Lawrence (May 7).
Commandant is second on the team in scoring with 73 points on 47 goals and 26 assists. A 2021 Third Team All-American, Commandant has 18 points on 13 goals and five assists in four NCAA Tournament games, including five goals to help lead RIT to a 26-15 win over Tufts in last Sunday's semifinal. The Most Outstanding Player of the 2021 Championship, Commandant is 12th all-time in scoring with 195 points on 126 goals and 69 assists. He tallied a season-best seven points in the Tigers 16-9 win at York (3g, 4a) and in RIT's 21-6 win against Cortland (4g, 3a).
Pilcher leads RIT in scoring with 87 points on 65 goals and 22 assists. He leads the Tigers with 19 points (16g, 3a) in four NCAA Tournament games, including a career-high seven goals in RIT's 26-15 win over Tufts in last Sunday's semifinal. Pilcher has recorded at least one point in all 22 games this season, including a career-best nine points in the win over Tufts. His 12 man-up goals is tied for seventh-most in a season, his 65 goals is tied for fourth-most and his 87 points is tied for ninth-most in a season.
Eistrat helps anchor a RIT defense that allows 8.90 goals per game. A 2021 Honorable Mention All-American selection, Eistrat has a ground ball and a goal and two assists in four NCAA Tournament games, while helping the Tigers defense hold their opponents to 9.50 goals per game. Eistrat four ground balls in a 13-5 win over St. Lawrence in the Liberty League Championship and had an assist in RIT's 26-15 win over Tufts in last Sunday's semifinal.
Hutchison is 21-1 this season with an 8.19 goals against average and a .589 save percentage. He is 4-0 with an 8.48 goals against average and a .633 save percentage in four NCAA Tournament games. Hutchison made 14 saves in the Tigers 26-15 win over Tufts in last Sunday's semifinal. He has 10 games with 10 or more saves, including a career-high 18 saves in the Tigers win at St. John Fisher. Hutchison is tied for first all-time for wins in a season (21) and most games played in a season (22) and eighth in saves in a season (212). He is tied for eighth all-time with an 8.27 career goals against average.
RIT will play Liberty League rival Union College in the 2022 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship on Sunday (May29) at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn. at 1:00 p.m.
