Wrestling places second at Ned McGinley Invitational
WILKES BARRE, PA – RIT senior Josh Harkless (285 lb.), junior Nick Smith (184 lb.) and sophomore Jack Lamson (174 lb.) won their respective weight classes to lead the Tigers to a second-place finish at the Ned McGinley Invitational, Saturday.
Top-seeded Harkless defeated Christopher Dellabella (Wilkes) with a fall 1:47 into his first match. He pinned Sam Moffet (Kings) 16 seconds into their quarterfinal match. Harkless, ranked third in Division III, pinned Nathan Faxon 12 seconds into their semifinal match and beat Derek Martin (York) with an 11-2 major decision in the title bout.
Smith, the No. 5 seed, beat Kristian Koroveshi (Stevens), 7-2 in his opening match. He pinned Cole Chase (Roger Williams) 2:29 into their round of 16 match. Smith beat No. 4 Dmitry Derbedyenyev (NYU), 2-1 in the quarterfinals. He pinned Porter Gresko (Merchant Marine) 5:24 into their semifinal match and beat No. 7 Vitali Daniels (W&J) 6-2 in the title match.
Top-seeded Lamson beat Sawyer Pugh (Stevens) with a 12-1 major decision in his first match. He defeated Aaron Ladd (York) 15-0 in the round of 16. Lamson beat Matthew Ferrucci (Merchant Marine), 9-0 in the semifinal and Cristian Gioia (NYU) 16-10 in the championship match.
Sophomore Josh Warland placed second at 165 lb. The No. 3 seed pinned Connor Foley (Roger Williams) 1:01 into his first match. Warland picked up a 14-1 major decision win over Bodhi McCormack (Stevens) in the round of 16 and pinned De'mier Hamilton (W&J) 1:02 into their quarterfinal bout. Warland defeated No. 7 Jacob Wilson (Merchant Marine) 15-0 in the semifinals before a loss to No. 1 Jaryn Hartranft (Wilkes) in the title match.
Sophomore Max Watson placed second at 149 lb. Watson, the No. 4 seed, beat Justyn Johnson (York), 9-3 in his opening match. He pinned Brian Hopkins (Kings) 2:26 into their round of 32 bout and took down Aiden Krass (Merchant Marine) with a 19-6 major decision win in the round of 16. Watson beat No. 5 Justin Ciliotta (Stevens) 10-4 in the quarterfinal. He defeated Geroge Pavis (Stevens), 9-4 in the semifinal before a loss to No. 2 Shane Kibler (Kings) in the title match.
Sophomore Quincy Bonville took fourth place at 197 lb. and senior Mason Grodzki (165 lb.) and first year Zach Gerby (149 lb.) each took sixth place.
RIT returns to action on Friday (Nov. 7) against Brockport at 7:00 p.m.
