No. 3 Men's Lacrosse wins 13-6 at Union
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – RIT fifth year Michael Finneran scored a career-high three goals to lead the No. 3 Tigers to a 13-6 win at Union, Saturday. The Tigers won their 13th consecutive Liberty League regular season title and clinched the No. 1 seed in next week's Liberty League Tournament.
Finneran finished with three goals and an assist. Graduate student Seth Grottenthaler scored two goals and added an assist. Sophomore David Charney scored two goals, while Junior Chase Bruno, graduate student Ian Dinga and senior Jack Budway each scored a goal and an assist. Sophomore Nick DiLauro and senior Nate Senez each had two assists
Sophomore Logan Fletcher caused two turnovers and had four ground balls. Junior Alex Zborowski made 14 saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- RIT scored the first five goals of the game. Bruno, Finneran, Harkins, Charney and Budway each scored for the Tigers.
- Union scored twice inside the final 45 seconds of the opening frame, cutting the Tiger's lead to 5-2 on Mike Wall's goal with one second to play in the quarter.
- Wall scored the first two goals of the second quarter to cut RIT's lead to 5-4.
- First year Ryan Bullock and Finneran tallied back-to-back goals, taking a 7-4 lead on Finneran's man-up goal with 5:33 to play in the quarter.
- Emmett Lyne scored for Union followed by a goal from Grottenthaler with 27 seconds to play in the second to give the Tigers an 8-5 halftime lead.
- Finneran scored a man-up goal followed by a Charney goal with 6:21 remaining in the third quarter to give RIT a 10-5 lead.
- Walker Popko scored with 2:27 to play in the third quarter to cut the Tiger's lead to 10-6.
- The Tigers outscored the Garnett Chargers 3-0 in the fourth quarter. Dinga, Harkins and Grottenthaler each scored to make it a 13-6 final.
GAME NOTES:
- RIT outshot Union, 49-45
- The Tigers were 24-of-25 on clearing attempts
- RIT went 4-of-5 on man-up and had 31 ground balls
- Zborowski improves 16-1 on the season
