Scarfone named to Richter Award Watch List

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT sophomore goaltender Tommy Scarfone was named to the watch list for the 2023 Mike Richter Award, given annually to the top goaltender in NCAA Division I men's ice hockey.

Scarfone is currently 15th nationally and first in Atlantic Hockey with a .923 save percentage. He is also tied for fourth in the country in victories with a 13-4-0 record and sits fifth with a .765 winning percentage.

A three-time Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the week, Scarfone is 11-1-0 with a 1.82 goals against average and a .939 save percentage in 12 conference games this season.

Last week, Scarfone stopped 58 of 59 total shots faced during a two-game sweep at Bentley, stopping all 29 shots in last Friday's 3-0 victory for his first shutout of the season, before totaling 29 saves in Saturday's 3-1 victory.

Scarfone stopped a career-high 41 shots in RIT's setback to No. 5 Penn State (Dec. 30) before tying his fourth-highest total with 37 the following night for his eighth game with at least 30 saves this winter.

The list will be pared down to three finalists later this season before the winner is announced on Friday, April 7, on the eve of the Frozen Four Championship game.
