Women's Basketball comes up short against host WPI at the Holiday Classic

WORCESTER, M.A. – RIT first-year guard Ella Wilson scores 11 points as the women's basketball team falls to WPI, 56-41 in the final day of the WPI Holiday Classic, Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • First-year guard Ella Wilson scores from behind the arc on back-to-back possessions, giving the Tigers an early 6-0 lead
  • Senior guard Emma Waite closes the first quarter with a jump shot, providing RIT with a 14-11 lead after ten minutes of play
  • A driving layup from WPI's Alice Kelly ties the game at 19, with 6:07 left in the second quarter
  • WPI ends the second quarter on a 10-4 scoring run, taking a six point lead at the half
  • WPI outscores RIT 12-7 in the first five minutes of the third quarter, obtaining a 41-30 lead
  • Sophomore guard Erin DiPaola converts a three-point play after being fouled on a made jumper at the 3:57 mark in the third, cutting WPI's lead to eight
  • WPI takes a 42-35 lead after three quarters of play
  • In the fourth quarter, WPI outscores RIT 14-6, earning a 15-point victory

GAME NOTES

  • RIT went 7-for-9 (77.8%) from the free throw line
  • DiPaola and Waite led the team with seven rebounds each
  • The Tigers scored 18 points in the paint
  • Wilson was named to the WPI Holiday Classic All-Tournament team
