Athletic Department announces online hockey jersey auction to benefit breast cancer research
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT Athletic Department announced the start of an online hockey jersey auction over the next two weeks with the proceeds to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
The RIT men's hockey team will wear special pink jerseys during its home game versus Holy Cross this Saturday (Feb. 8), while the women's team will wear the one-of-a-kind jerseys during its home game versus Penn State next Friday (Feb. 14).
An online auction is live where fans can bid on the game-worn, individual jerseys of their choice. Each auction begins at $75 and also begins with a buy-it-now option for $250. Use the search function to check if your favorite player is still available and make a bid now.
The auction is scheduled to close on Thursday, February 20 at 7:00 p.m.
"Breast cancer has affected the lives of so many people, it is important to spread the word about how we can all do our part to support those in the fight," said RIT Executive Director of Athletics Jacqueline Nicholson. "Buying a t-shirt or bidding on a jersey might seem like a small gesture, but every little bit counts when it comes to defeating this terrible disease."
Fans are invited to wear pink during both games, while t-shirts will be on sale during both games for $15 with proceeds also benefiting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF).
The Athletic Department has partnered with Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, which annually hosts events to raise funds for breast cancer awareness and research.
