After a brief introduction to medieval materials, attention turns to the formulation of research questions about material collections and how new technologies may facilitate greater understanding of items while, even, raising new questions about them. Special attention will be drawn to a particular item of interest, the St. Agatha Manuscript owned by Memorial Art Gallery. The visit will include a display of pigments used in the creation of medieval manuscripts, handling of materials, and a demonstration of the RIT-developed multispectral imaging system.
