Women's Hockey ties Robert Morris 2-2 in AHA opener

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT senior forward Kylie Aquaro had two assists in the Tigers 2-2 tie against Robert Morris in the Atlantic Hockey America opener, Friday.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Veronica Brac scored at 11:39 of the first period to give Robert Morris the lead.
  • Sophomore forward Addie Alvarez tied the game at 1-1 on her goal at 16:42 of the frame. Aquaro centered a pass from behind the RMU net. First year forward Brac Kelley had her shot in front saved and the rebound came to Alvarez who fired a shot past RMU's Maggie Hatch for her fifth goal of the season.
  • Madison Primeau scored at 14:22 of the second period to give the Colonials a 2-1 lead.
  • RIT fired 13 shots on net in the second period, including one from Alvarez from the slot early in the period that was turned aside by Hatch.
  • Graduate student forward Nicole Ness tied the game on her power play goal with 3:07 remaining in the third period, scoring into the open net off assists from Aquaro and sophomore defensewoman Emma Pickering.
  • Senior goalie Sarah Coe made three big saves inside the last minute of overtime to preserve the tie.

 
 
GAME NOTES

  • RIT outshot Robert Morris 38-26
  • The Tigers went 1-for-3 on the power play, while RMU was 0-for-4
  • Coe made 24 saves in net.
  • The Colonials picked up the extra point with a 1-0 win in the shootout.
