Men's Basketball falls to Nazareth in OT, 83-76

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT men's basketball team fell to Nazareth in overtime, 83-76, in the opening game of the Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout, Thursday. Graduate student Matt Caggiano led the Tigers with 26 points.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In the first half, RIT used a 9-2 run that was capped off with a layup from graduate student Kenny Wilburn to give the Tigers a 27-20 advantage with six minutes left in the half.
  • The second half saw the lead go back and forth with the largest lead being just six points.
  • Trailing 70-68, Caggiano hit a jump shot with 24 seconds remaining on the clock to send the game into overtime.
  • Nazareth took control of the game in overtime with a 6-2 run. Caggiano hit a jumper with 1:53 left to cut the Golden Flyers' lead to two. However, that was as close as the Tigers would get as Nazareth converted their free throws down the stretch.

 
GAME NOTES

  • Caggiano's 26 points in a season best, going 13 of 20 from the field. The guard is averaging 15.0 points per game through the first four games of the season.
  • Senior forward Josiah Turner nearly earned a double double with 15 points and nine rebounds.
  • Wilburn added 11 points as graduate student Mark Osime scored 10 points.

 
WHAT'S NEXT
The Tigers are back in action this Saturday (Nov. 23) when the team takes on St. John Fisher at the University of Rochester. Game-time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
