Women's Basketball defeats St. Mary’s (Md.), 61-54

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Sophomore guard Maddy Ramsgard scored 29 points to fuel RIT past St. Mary's (Md.), 61-54, in the Jamie L. Roberts Memorial Tournament, Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After trailing 12-7 at the end of the first quarter, the Tigers managed to claw their way back in the second quarter when Ramsgard started an 11-2 run by hitting a jumper with 5:01 on the clock.
  • Senior forward Sophia Shivok converted the front end of a pair of free-throws to tie the game at 20 with 1:10 left before the run was capped off with a bucket from senior guard Hannah Durand, giving RIT a two-point lead. The Seahawks' Olivia Liszt drained a jump shot with 22 seconds remaining in the half to give the home team a 23-22 lead going into the break.
  • In the third quarter, RIT took the lead for good when first year guard Caroline Henderson hit a three-point shot to make the score 29-28 with 5:39 left to play in the quarter.
  • The Tigers pulled away in the final ten minutes as the visitors led by as much as 12 points mid-way through the fourth quarter.

 
GAME NOTES

  • Ramsgard's 29 points is a career best, easily surpassing her previous single game-high of 13 points last season. The sophomore transfer went 13 of 20 from the field and 3 of 4 at the free throw line. Ramsgard also played 38 minutes, also a career best.
  • Sophomore forward Faye Kaplinski ended the game with nine points and nine rebounds for the Tigers.
  • RIT forced 16 turnovers, managing to score 19 points off the St. Mary's (Md.) miscues.

The Tigers are back in action tomorrow (Nov. 16) afternoon when the team plays No.14-ranked Catholic in a neutral site contest at St. Mary's (Md.). Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
